Minister Grabar-Kitarović received to farewell visits ambassadors of US, Chile and Canada

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović received 16 June 2006 to farewell visits US Ambassador Ralph Frank, Chilean Ambassador Manuel Atria Rawlins, and Canadian Ambassador Stefanie Beck

Minister Grabar-Kitarović thanked Ambassador Frank for his professional and personal contribution to the further development of the partnership and the overall co-operation between Croatia and the US during his mandate. Minister Grabar-Kitarović pointed out the Croatian Government’s dedication to realising full NATO and EU membership, and meeting all of the membership’s conditions and obligations. In that regard, she reminded Ambassador Frank about the progress of the reforms and the EU accession process, as well as Croatia’s aspirations to NATO membership, thanking him for the US support and co-operation in realising these objectives.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the further enhancement of the co-operation and partnership relations between Croatia and the US, and exchanged opinions on the key areas of future co-operation. Ambassador Frank reiterated United States’ strong support and encouragement to Croatia’s perseverance in conducting the reforms. Thanking the minister for the co-operation, Ambassador Frank announced the arrival of the new US ambassador to Croatia.

Minister Grabar-Kitarović held a separate meeting with the Chilean Ambassador Atria, who said that he established cordial relations in Croatia, both on the official and the unofficial level. He congratulated Croatia on its political and economic successes, especially in the relations with the EU and NATO.

Minister Grabar-Kitarović thanked Ambassador Atria for his contribution to the development of the bilateral and multilateral relations, pointing out her participation at the Communities of Democracies’ Third Summit, held April 2005 in Chile, and the excellent relations with the Croatian community in the country. Minister Grabar-Kitarović wished Ambassador Atria success in his future work, adding she is certain Atria will remain Croatia’s lasting friend.

In meeting with Canadian Ambassador Stefanie Beck, the two ministers exchanged opinions on the main achievements in the bilateral relations between Croatia and Canada, and the possibilities of their further improvements. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the very good co-operation between the two countries on the multilateral level.

Minister Grabar-Kitarović also reviewed the course pf the EU accession negotiations and Croatia’s EU and NATO membership perspectives, emphasizing Croatia’s achievements in the field of economy and in the implementation of the refugee and property return program. Minister Grabar-Kitarović thanked Ambassador Beck for her engagement in and contribution to the development of the bilateral relations and co-operation between Croatia and Canada.

Ambassador Beck commended Croatia’s progress in the reforms and Euro-Atlantic integration processes.
