Minister Grabar-Kitarović met in Zagreb with Senator George Voinovich

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović met on Thursday, 23 March 2006 in Zagreb, with US Senator George Voinovich

Minister Grabar-Kitarović thanked Senator Voinovich for his support to the Resolution 342 of the US Senate recommending that Croatia be invited to join NATO as soon as possible. In that regard, Minister Grabar-Kitarović conveyed Croatia’s expectations that the Senate and Senator Voinovich himself continue to support the NATO enlargement and the inclusion of the South East European countries into the Euro-Atlantic integration.

Minister Grabar-Kitarović pointed out Croatia’s dedication to joining the Euro-Atlantic integration and conducting the necessary reforms. She stressed Croatia’s active role in the stabilisation and the setting up of prosperity in South East Europe, as well as the belief that Croatia can and does have the obligation to ensure peace and stability in the region. She emphasized Croatia’s active and constructive role in the region, especially through CEFTA and SEECP, as well as through the bilateral relations with the neighbouring countries.

Senator Voinovich expressed his satisfaction with Croatia’s role and applauded its efforts and initiatives in the solving of the issues in South East Europe.

Minister Grabar-Kitarović informed Senator Voinovich in short about the progress of Croatia’s membership negotiations with the EU, pointing out its position on and the initiative to enlarge CEFTA as a model of regional economic co-operation and the preparation to take part on the EU inner market.
