Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović received on Thursday, 23 February 2006, to inaugural visit the newly-appointed Japanese ambassador to the Republic of Croatia, Tetsuhisa Shirakawa
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the high level of co-operation between the two countries, which created the conditions for further development in the fields of common interest. In that regard, Minister Grabar-Kitarović especially pointed out the coast building in the port of Rijeka (carried out by Japanese company Kajima), and the whole project’s value will further grow with the building of the new infrastructure, i.e. the completion of the highway and the building of the low-lying Rijeka-Zagreb railway.
Minister Grabar-Kitarović further illustrated the quality co-operation between the two countries on the project of the sophisticated demining equipment tested in Benkovac, which includes humanitarian, scientific, and potentially commercial elements.
Ambassador Shirakawa, a scientist by vocation, is prepared to support the continuation on the scientific co-operation between Croatia and Japan. He pointed out the fact that last year, more than 30.000 Japanese visited Croatia, which is an increase of 43% in relation to 2004, meaning that the tourist co-operation between the two countries has a perspective.
