The campaign has two goals: 1) to deliver substantial and fact-based information on refugees living outside of Croatia, based on which it could reach a reasonable decision on their return; 2) to contribute to creating an atmosphere that would facilitate a sustainable return by promoting the importance of building a tolerant society based on European values.
The Croatian Government, by conducting a reconciliation policy, has taken a clear stand and is consistently conducting the program for refugee return and the completion of the reconstruction process. The Croatia can now point out with a great satisfaction that that program is a part of the Croatian Government’s overall effort to fortify the widest democratic and social stability in the country, further strengthen the inner harmony and cohesion, and introduce the European standards and values in all segments of social relations and state’s obligations.
The Public Awareness Campaign is a joint project by the Croatian Government and the international community (OSCE Mission, UNHCR, European Commission’s Delegation to Croatia, and other international partners), which once again proves the Croatian Government’s openness to the return of all those that wish to return and their integration into the Croatian democratic civil society.
Croatia will continue to persistently and with a full determination obey and conduct the legal regulations that, complementary with some of the areas from the OSCE Mission’s mandate, should ensure a sustainable return, quicken the legal reform and lead up to the further enhancement of human rights, media freedom and civil society.
