Croatian Ambassador to Turkey Gordan Bakota handed credentials to Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer

Croatian Ambassador to the Republic of Turkey Gordan Bakota handed today, 16th November 2005 in Ankara, his credentials to Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer, thereby officially assuming the duty of Croatian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Turkey

President Sezer congratulated Croatia on opening the negotiations with the EU, pointing out the need for strengthening the bilateral relations between Croatia and Turkey, especially in economy. Speaking about the co-operation in the South Eastern Europe, President Sezer said that Croatia and Turkey play a special role in it, adding that our countries can have a positive influence on the events in the region.

It was pointed out that the pending visit to Turkey by Croatian President Stjepan Mesić will contribute to the strengthening of political and economic relations between the two countries.

After the handing of the credentials, Ambassador Bakota laid a garland in the mausoleum of the first Turkish president Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and signed in the book of condolences.
