Minister Grabar-Kitarović received letter from Slovenian Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović received yesterday, 10 October 2005, a letter from Slovenian Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel

Minister Rupel’s letter, in its content and approach to solving open issues, is the continuation of the practice and approach that has marked the last 15 years of solving the outstanding issues in the relations between the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Slovenia.

The Republic of Croatia suggests that such practice be stepped out of in order to solve these issues. As countries with mature democracies, let us use the instruments that many other countries have used, e.g. the United States, Canada, Denmark, and others.

Since bilateral talks have failed to yield a solution that would satisfy both sides, the Republic of Croatia suggests that the matter be taken to an international legal body that would with its verdict close this chapter in our relations, providing, of course, both sides agree beforehand to accept it. The Republic of Croatia is willing to assume that responsibility and suggests that the Republic of Slovenia considers our proposal.
