The second day of Minister Grabar-Kitarović’s official visit to Chile

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, who is on an official visit to the Republic of Chile and taking part at the 3rd Ministerial Conference of the Community of Democracies, held a speech today, 29 April 2005, at the panel “Co-operation for democratic governance: The exchange of regional and inter-regional experiences to strengthen the Rule of Law and political parties”

In her speech, Minister Grabar-Kitarović said that the defining of a clear goal, in our case the full EU membership, acts as a catalyst for the implementation of internal structural and social reforms directed at strengthening the democratisation and the setting up of a functioning market. She pointed out the importance of a positive example, with special emphasis on the Croatian economic and political model, and Croatia’s efforts to maintain the stability in the region through the exchange of experiences and mutual co-operation between countries in the region.

Minister Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović met at the margins of the Conference with a number of ministers, including U. S. State Secretary Condoleezza Rice, who applauded Croatia’s progress during the last two years in the strengthening of democracy. Minister Grabar-Kitarović also talked with Moroccan Vice-Prime Minister Abbas El Fassi, Paraguayan Foreign Minister Leila Rachid de Cowles, and Azerbaijan Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov.

Also due are bilateral meetings with the foreign ministers of New Zealand, Mali, India, Ukraine, Palau, and the UN under-secretary for political affairs. Tomorrow, 30 April 2005, the last day of her official visit to the Republic of Chile, Minister Grabar-Kitarović will meet with the representatives of the Croatian community in Chile.
