Minister Grabar-Kitarović met in Vienna with Federal Chancellor Schüssel and Foreign Minister Plassnik

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović met today, 10 March 2005, during her first official visit to the Republic of Austria, with Federal Chancellor Wolfgang Schüssel and Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik

Minister Grabar-Kitarović met today with Federal Chancellor Schüssel, who promised full support to Croatia for the star of the negotiation with the EU 17 March 2005. In a friendly talk, the two described the relations between Croatia and Austria as excellent. Federal Chancellor Schüssel pointed out the good economic co-operation and enquired about the pre-accession funds opening in Croatia. Schüssel also offered expert and technical assistance in the strengthening of Croatia’s state administration’s efficiency.

Minister Grabar-Kitarović informed Austria’s Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik with Croatia’s efforts on the road towards the EU membership and the efforts to meet all of the conditions, including full co-operation with the Hague Tribunal. Minister Grabar-Kitarović expressed her conviction that Croatia can prove that it is doing everything it can. The Republic of Croatia appreciates friendly Austria’s help, with whom it has excellent bilateral relations with no open issues, said Minister Grabar-Kitarović.

Austria’s Foreign Minister Plassnik said that she personally believes that Croatia’s negotiations with the EU will begin 17 March 2005, adding that it is equally important for the region as a whole. The Council of Ministers will reach the decision 16 March 2005 in Brussels, said Plasnik, and added that she is certain that by that time Croatia will prove it fully co-operates with the Hague.
