The Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes the reopening of Israeli-Palestinian dialogue

The Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the occasion of the meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who met today, 8 February 2005, in Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt, welcomes the reopening of Israeli-Palestinian dialogue

The MFA hopes that the dialogue will help overcome the past differences in relation to the peace process and open serious negotiations on a permanent solution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The MFA supports the cease-fire agreement and refraining from one-sided violent activities. The MFA deems a full bilateral guarantee for border and population security to be an inseparable part of the negotiation preparations.

The MFA hopes that the existing road map will continue to be useful for the negotiations, and that the UN, US, EU, and the Russian Federation will contribute to their success. The positive progress in solving the Israeli-Palestinian issue and a breakthrough in solving the crisis would have an immeasurably important influence on reducing the tension in the Middle East and would facilitate the solving of the overall situation in the region, based on the principles of peace, democratic stability and co-operation of the neighbouring countries.

By holding intensive and developed relations with the State of Israel and the Palestinian Autonomy, the Republic of Croatia will continue to support the peace process.
