State secretary at the Croatian MFA Gordan Bakota visited today, 1 February 2005, the town of Sombor in Serbia and Montenegro, accompanied by Croatian ambassador Tonči Stančić, chairman of the Croatian National Council Josip Ivanović and consul general to Subotica Davor Vidiša
Bakota talked with Sombor’s mayor Jovan Slavković and chairman of Sombor county assembly Miodrag Sekulić on the position of the Croatian minority in that area and the realisation of their rights, especially now after the recent signing of the Minority Protection Agreement between Croatia and Serbia and Montenegro. Bakota and his hosts also discussed the economic co-operation between the two countries.
Bakota also met with representatives of the Croatian minority in Sombor, visited the Croatian arts club “Vladimir Nazor”, as well as the “Somboled” company, mostly owned by Zagreb-based “Lura”, and “Somborgas”, mostly owned by Zagreb-based “Montmontaž”.
