Žužul met in Brussels with Solana who confirmed EU members' satisfaction with Croatia's progress in membership preparations

Foreign Affairs Minister Miomir Žužul met today, 3 December 2004 in Brussels, with European Council’s Secretary General and High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana

Žužul and Solana exchanged opinions pending the European Council’s meeting mid-December, at which Croatia expects the decision on the date for the start of the membership negotiations with the EU to be reached.

Javier Solana expressed his satisfaction with the progress Croatia has made in the last couple of months in meeting the criteria and conditions for the EU membership, and reminded about Croatia’s obligations in relations with the ICTY. Secretary General Solana pointed out that members of the EU appreciate Croatia’s progress in preparations for the membership. Minister Žužul communicated Croatian government’s firm intention to fully co-operate with the ITCY at the Hague.

After the meeting with Solana, Minister Žužul stated that he is convinced Croatia will receive the concrete date for the start of the negotiations around mid-December. Minister Žužul expressed the same conviction a day earlier when he met in London with UK Minister for Europe MacShane.
