State Secretary Hido Biščević received Ukrainian Ambassador to Croatia Victor Kyryk

State Secretary at the Croatian Foreign Ministry Hido Biščević received today, 29 November 2004, Ukrainian Ambassador to Croatia Victor Kyryk, who informed the State Secretary about the recent developments in Ukraine after the second round of presidential elections

Ambassador Kyryk pointed out that it seems that the political crisis, after a period of mass protest by the Ukrainian citizens, is entering a period of negotiations. The two sides met before international arbitrators 26 November 2004 and agreed to start negotiations with the aim of finding a peaceful solution to the conflict. Ambassador Kyryk said that the Ukrainian Supreme Court, as the only authorized institution in the country, will issue a report today on its position as regards the recent elections.

State Secretary Biščević expressed his concern about the political crisis in Ukraine caused by different evaluations of the election results. He expressed his conviction that the unity and territorial integrity of the country will be maintained, and that the present crisis will be resolved as soon as possible through political dialogue, based on the Ukrainian Constitution and law.
