Croatian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Sweden, Svjetlan Berković, handed today, 26 November 2004 in Stockholm, his credentials to Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf
Ambassador Berković informed the Swedish King of Croatia’s expectations about the European Council setting the date mid-November for the start of the membership negotiations between Croatia and the EU. Ambassador Berković said that joining the Euro-Atlantic integrations is Croatia’s main foreign policy goals and pointed out Croatia’s consistent contribution to the democratisation and stability in the region. Ambassador Berković stressed the importance of the recent visit by Croatia’s Prime Minister Ivo Sanader to Serbia and Montenegro, as well as the signing of the bilateral Agreement on the Protection of Minorities. Ambassador Berković communicated Croatian President Stjepan Mesić’s invitation to Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf to visit Croatia.
King Carl XVI Gustaf showed interest in Croatia and the situation in the region. He expressed his satisfaction with Croatia’s implementation of reforms and conviction that Croatia will soon become an EU member.
