Minister Žužul congratulated the new EC President and commissioners

Foreign Minister Miomir Žužul sent his greeting to the new president of the European Commission, José Manuel Barros, vice-presidents and EC commissioners, who the European Parliament at its plenary session yesterday voted a 5-year mandate

Minister Žužul congratulated President Barros and the EC commissioners for being appointed to this responsible position, wished them success in their work and confirmed Croatia’s dedication to closely co-operate with the Commission. Minister Žužul informed President Barros and the commissioners that the Croatian government is diligently preparing for the start of the negotiations with the EU and, since the European Commission plays a key role in that process, expressed his hope and conviction that the Commission will offer permanent support to Croatia’s membership in the Union. Croatia wishes to take part in the strengthening of the EU and the building of a better future for all citizens of Europe, said Minister Žužul in his congratulatory letters.

Minister Žužul also pointed out the importance of the activities of the EC members in view of the decisions the Commission would be reaching in the next 5 years, especially as regards the issue of the EU Enlargement. The Commission faces a demanding, but challenging work, said Minister Žužul, emphasising that the EU membership and European affairs are Croatian government’s basic priorities.
