The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports that today, 11 November 2004, Foreign Minister Miomir Žužul was informed by Montenegrin Foreign Minister Miodrag Vlahović that the Montengrin government had reached a decision to extradite the Croatian citizen Mladen Mirković who was serving a sentence in Montenegro because of a traffic accident
During his visit to Croatia 2 November 2004, Minister Žužul asked Minister Vlahović to communicate to the Montenegrin government his appeal for the speeding up of the process so that Mirković could continue serving his prison sentence in Croatia. On every official meeting with the Montenegrin side, the Croatian MFA raised the issue of Mirković’s extradition. At its session, the Montenegrin government reached a decision on extraditing Mirković and informed Minister Žužul about it today.
Driver Mladen Mirković took part in an accident in 2001 on the road Cetinje-Podgorica in Montenegro in which 12 persons have been killed. Mirković was found guilty and was sentenced in 2002 to a 15-year prison sentence in Montenegro. Croatia asked for his extradition, so that he could serve the rest of the sentence in Croatia, which the Montenegrin senior state prosecutor approved of.
Mladen Mirković is expected to be extradited tonight, 11 November 2004, at the Karasovići-Sutorina (Debeli Brijeg) border crossing.
