Minister Žužul held a lecture at the Faculty of Law in Zagreb entitled “Croatia and the United Nations”

Croatian Foreign Minister Miomir Žužul held a lecture today at the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb, entitled “Croatia and the United Nations”, commemorating the UN Day, 24 October

In his lecture to the student and professors of the Faculty of Law, Minister Žužul talked about the institutional importance and role of the UN in international relations. Croatia has gone through three stages in relation to the UN – first it became a member, then it became an object of the UN’s activities, and now it is an active participant. Croatia, said Minister Žužul, has fully entered the group of countries that are actively contributing to world’s stability.

The significance of the EU lies in its political equalising of big and small countries. Its role and contribution to fighting global terrorism, said Žužul, is also indisputable as, were it not for its activities, the situation would have been much worse.

Minister Žužul also explained the importance of Croatia’s candidacy for non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2008-2009, which would be a confirmation that Croatia, although a young country, can contribute with its experience to the UN’s activities, especially in combating terrorism and solving post-conflict situations.

In the end, Minister Žužul stressed the significance of the active role of the Croatian diplomacy, both now and when Croatia becomes an EU member. After the lecture, Minister Žužul answered the students’ numerous questions.
