State Secretaries Biščević and Antonione met in Trieste

State Secretary for Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Hido Biščević met today, 7 October 2004, in Trieste, with Italian State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Roberto Antonione

The meeting in Trieste reviewed the state of bilateral relations between Croatia and Italy. Biščević thanked Italy for its notification of the ratification of the SAA, and Antonione confirmed Italy’s support to Croatia in the process of acceding to the EU. In that regard, a co-operation between the EU divisions of the two countries’ ministries was agreed upon.

It was also agreed that the Mixed Commission for reviewing the possibility of including the Italian citizens in the denationalisation process in Croatia continue with its activities, and meet on 22 November 2004 in Rome, as a part of satisfying the political criteria stated in the European Commission’s Opinion.

High officials of the Croatian and Italian foreign ministries Biščević and Antonione also reviewed further co-operation between the two countries on a bilateral and multilateral level in the field of economic development – especially of the northern Adriatic – as well as the ecological protection of the Adriatic basin. Expert and political meetings were agreed upon in that regard.
