Meeting of the co-chairmen of the Permanent Mixed Commission for the Implementation of the Agreement between Croatia and Slovenia on cross-border traffic and co-operation held in Otočac

After repeated incidents in Savudrija bay, involving the obstruction of the Croatian fishermen’s activities by the Slovenian police, a meeting was held today, 8 August 2004, in Otočac, Slovenia, between the co-chairmen of the Permanent Mixed Commission for the Implementation of the Agreement the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Slovenia on cross-border traffic and co-operation, along with the chairmen of the subcommission for fishery

Today, the co-chairmen of the Permanent Mixed Commission reviewed a few possibilities, from renewing the temporary regime to its amending and the introduction of new elements, for the purposes of maintaining good neighbourly relations and unobstructed fishing for fishermen on both sides of the border.

Talks within the Permanent Mixed Commission should continue until a draft is agreed upon, that will be then submitted for review to Slovenian and Croatian governments.

The Slovenian side announced a diplomatic note as a direct answer to Croatia’s protest note from 3 August 2004, following the Slovenian note that arrived yesterday, pertaining to the subject, and especially today’s meeting between the co-chairmen of the Permanent Mixed Commission.
