On 11 June 2004, Mr. Miomir Žužul, Croatian Foreign Minister, talked on the phone with Ms. Claudie Haigneré, Minister for European Cooperation of the French Republic. The French Minister confirmed firm and full support of France to Croatia on its path to joining the EU
Minister Haigneré said that France fully accepts the draft conclusions for the European Council harmonised on 10 June at the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the EU Member States in which the European Council shall give Croatia the candidate status next week, and shall take a decision that negotiations on full membership of Croatia in the EU shall begin in early 2005.
Toady’s talks between the two Ministers marked a continuation of good cooperation between Croatia and France after recent meeting of Croatian President Mesić and French President Chirac, and Croatian Foreign Minister Žužul and French foreign Minister Barnier.
