Croatian delegation, led by Assistant Foreign Minister Neven Madey, took part 19 February at the second regular dialogue meeting between the European Commission and the Republic of Croatia on the political criteria for EU membership
The meeting discussed the continuation of the process of meeting the membership criteria. Croatian representatives informed the representatives of the European Commission about the progress in co-operation with the Hague Tribunal, the return of the refugees and their property, the protection of minority rights and the implementation of the Constitutional Law on minority rights, justice reform, regional co-operation and development of good-neighbourly relations, and the reform of media legislature. The meeting also discussed the implementation the Temporary Agreement, or the SAA between Croatia and the EU.
Assistant Foreign Minister Madey presented Croatia’s main foreign policy goals in regard to the EU during the 6-month Irish presidency. The European Commission welcomed the information about the continuation of reforms and the progress in meeting the political criteria for EU membership, which the Commission will take into account while drawing up the opinion.
The representatives of Croatia and the EU agreed on the continuation of the intensive communication and exchange of information, on the political and expert level, about meeting the political criteria for Croatia’s joining the European Union.
