Croatian Foreign Minister Miomir Žužul and Rector of the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium, Paul Demaret signed today in Bruges the letter of intention for the two-way co-operation between the government of the Republic of Croatia and the College of Europe

According to the Letter of Intention, the Croatian government will examine all the possibilities for the Croatian students to take part in a larger number in the College’s programs, and will found a mixed committee that will conduct a selection of students. Also, in the next three months, it will examine and define the ways to organise the College of Europe courses in Croatia. The College of Europe has so far organised summer seminars in Dubrovnik, in co-operation with the Diplomatic Academy at the Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Letter of Intention was signed as a follow-up to Croatia’s EU membership application submitted in February 2003 in Athens during Greece’s presidency of the EU. Based on the Letter, Croatia becomes member of the College’s Governing Board. Membership of the Governing Board has so far been concurrent with receiving the candidate status for membership in the EU. Minister Žužul held a lecture today before the postgraduate students at the College of Europe on Croatia’s approaching the EU. Students showed great interest for the lecture and asked numerous questions on political and economic situation in Croatia, its European perspective and relations with the neighbours.
