State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Gordan Bakota visited today, 5 March, three districts of the Molise region in Italy with minority Croatian population: Kruč (Aquaviva Collecroce), Štifilić (San Felice) and Mundimitar (Montemitro)
State Secretary Bakota, accompanied by the recently appointed Honorary Consul for Molise, Antonio Sammartino, met with the mayors of three Molise districts and with representative of the Croatian community. Possibilities of economic and cultural co-operation that would establish firmer relations between Croats on both side of the Adriatic were considered. During this visit to Mundimitar, State Secretary Bakota visited the Croatian remedial school, where he talked with the students and professors.
State Secretary Bakota pointed out that the Croatian government pays a great deal of attention to Croatian minorities, especially in Molise, where an indigenous Croatian minority has existed for five centuries and has kept aware of its national affiliation. This bears witness to the importance of opening a Croatian consulate in Mundimitar, headed by a honorary consul, which State Secretary Bakota announced.
