The Secretary General of the Council of Europe evaluated the meeting as very positive and constructive. He notably commended specific measures undertaken by the Croatian Government with the view to improving the position of national minorities.
Croatia confirmed its readiness to cooperate in all activities of the Council of Europe. The support by the Council of Europe was expressed to the continuation of reforms in the Republic of Croatia. Ambassador Neven Madey, permanent representative of the Republic of Croatia with the Council of Europe, informed ministerial representatives at the same meeting of the priorities of foreign policy of the new Croatian Government by emphasising the importance of the process of approaching to the European Union and NATO, the Government's attachment to democracy and the rule of law, including firm guarantees on the respect of human rights and the rights of minorities, further advancement of good neighbourly relations, as well as resolving all open issues with the neighbouring countries, notably with Serbia and Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
