Mr. Tonino Picula, Croatian Foreign Minister, met today with Mr. Renzo Tonda, President of the Italian region of Friuli Giulia, at the Croatian Foreign Ministry.

President of the Italian region expressed full support to the policy and efforts of the Republic of Croatia to become a full member of EU. Speaking of very good political and economic relations between the two countries and their regions, Mr. Renzo Tonda informed Minister Picula of the modification of the Italian Constitution by which Italian regions are given more space in the creation of their foreign policy and by which the region of Friuli Giulia was assigned the cooperation with the Republic of Croatia.

With confirmation of good relations between the two countries, Minister Picula thanked for the support to the Republic of Croatia to join EU as full member, and emphasised the importance of national minorities as a bond between the two states. After the incident with the Italian fishing-boat in the Croatian territorial waters, Minister Picula expressed the need that the Agreement on Avoidance of Incidents at Sea and Cooperation in the Field of Mariculture be signed as soon as possible.
