To date, 139 states have acceded to the Rome Statues and 89 states ratified it, the Republic of Croatia included. The Rome Statutes came into effect on 1 July 2002, after it was ratified by 60 states. The seat of the Court is in The Hague.
The solemn session was also attended by representatives of States Parties to the Rome Statute. The Croatian delegation at the session was headed by Dr Ivan Šimonović, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Croatia. Other members of the delegation were Mr. Jakša Muljačić, Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to the Netherlands, Mr. Ivo Josipović, professor at the Faculty of Law in Zagreb. Mr. Budislav Vukas, professor at the Faculty of Law in Zagreb was present as well in the capacity of the Vice President of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea in Hamburg.
