The second meeting of the Joint Croatian-Italian Commission took place in Zagreb...

The second meeting of the Joint Croatian-Italian Commission took place in Zagreb on 24 April 2004, to consider the possibility of including Italian citizens in the denationalisation procedure in the Republic of Croatia. The Commission was established in Rome on 14 October 2002.

The talks of the Commission are being conducted on the basis of the amendments to the Croatian Compensation Act concerning the property confiscated during the Yugoslav Communist rule, which have opened the possibility for the participation of Italian citizens, the former owners, in denationalisation in the Republic of Croatia, in cases in which the issue of compensation for confiscated property has not already been settled through treaties.

The Croatian and the Italian sides first exchanged documents and views on the basis of which negotiations were continued to determine which categories of persons could, in the light of the above-mentioned amendments to the Compensation Act, be entitled to compensation for confiscated property.

The next meeting of the Commission will take place in Rome, and the date will be arranged through diplomatic channels.
