In the forthcoming period, the Working Group will be dealing with questions of advancing mutual cooperation between the Council of Europe and the enlarged EU in the field of strengthening democratic stability, the rule of law and the protection of human rights in the European continent. Particularly important here are activities to determine the place of these institutions in the new European political architecture, for which the Council of Europe gave the initiative for holding the third summit of heads of States or Governments of the oldest European democratic institution.
