Ambassador Madey presented to Mr. Walter Schwimmer a Civil Law Convention on Corruption...

On 5 June 2003, Ambassador Neven Madey, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Croatia with the Council of Europe, presented to Mr. Walter Schwimmer, Secretary-General of the Council of Europe, a document by which the Republic of Croatia ratifies Civil Law Convention on Corruption. On behalf of the Croatian Government, he signed the Convention for the Protection of Individuals with Regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data and the pertaining Additional Protocol to the Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data, regarding supervisory authorities and transborder data flows. The accession and the signing of the two new legal instruments of the Council of Europe represents further progress in the adjustment of the judicial system of the Republic of Croatia to European standards.

The Civil Law Convention on Corruption establishes for the first time at international level joint regulations in civil law and corruption and binds its parties to provide efficient measures in their domestic law to the benefit of persons who have been damaged by corruption.

The Convention for the Protection of Individuals with Regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data is the first international binding instrument whose aim is to protect rights and fundamental freedoms of natural persons and in particular to protect the privacy with regard to automatic processing of personal data.
