Minister Picula spoke of reforms introduced in UNESCO and emphasised that Croatia supports reforms that reinforce this organisation and adapt it to new global issues such as peace building, cooperation among nations in the field of education, science, culture and communication. The Republic of Croatia attaches great importance to UNESCO's efforts in our region and in the context of dialogue among civilisations. As an active participant of the process of stabilisation and good neighbourly relations, Croatia promotes cooperation on both bilateral and regional level, Minister Picula said.
Further, he spoke of the reform of education in Croatia and its adjustment to the EU norms. He paid special attention to the protection of cultural monuments and gave full support of the Republic of Croatia to the Declaration concerning the Acts Constituting a Crime against the Common Heritage of Humanity. Discussion on this topic began after the destruction of cultural heritage of Dubrovnik during the Independence War.
