Croatia was among the first members of the Council of Europe to ratify the fundamental European international and legal instruments in the field of biology and medicine that reflect the most recent scientific achievements.
The Convention on Human Rights and Biomedicine is the
first binding international instrument regarding the protection of human
dignity, rights and freedoms in relation to the scientific and medical
progress. The Additional Protocol on the Prohibition of Cloning Human
Beings is the only binding legal text in this field that strictly prohibits
any form of intervention the purpose of which is the cloning of human
being. The Additional Protocol on Transplantation of Organs and Tissues
of Human Origin defines the general principles and specific conditions
for the transplantation of organs, regarding both living and deceased
persons.
