The city of Kaitaia in the northern part of New Zealand symbolically marks the arrival of first Croatians in New Zealand since the middle of the 19th century, with a special greeting board at the entrance to the city (in Maori, Croatian and English language). The three-language inscriptions can also be found on the buildings of the local administration and the main city museum. Ambassador Kušen visited main institutions of the city and met with the Mayor of Kaitaia and city councilors. They all emphasized the importance of Croatian community which has largely contributed in last 160 years to New Zealand. A special cultural program was organized at the Dalmatian Club in Kaitaia, with Croatian dances and songs on the occasion of the Ambassador’s visit.
