Following the decision of the Israeli Ministry of Health of 21 January 2019, stating that students who obtained diplomas at foreign medical schools located only in one of the OECD countries (or ones that have undergone the WFME accreditation process) can apply for the state licensing exam in Israel, the Zagreb School of Medicine, with the support of the Croatian Embassy in Israel, requested that the diplomas obtained at the Zagreb School of Medicine can be exceptionally accepted. The talks and presentation of the Zagreb School Medicine and the overall Croatian educational and health system were held with the representatives of the Ministry of Health in Jerusalem and they were invited to an evaluation visit to Croatia.
During the visit of the Israeli Ministry of Health inspection team, on 20-21 May, the talks were held with the representatives of the Zagreb School of Medicine, Clinical Hospital Centre Zagreb, Ministry of Science and Education, Ministry of Health and Agency for Science and Higher Education, as well as with the Israeli students in Croatia. Based on the aforementioned, the curriculum, programme and the overall studies’ delivery at the Zagreb School of Medicine was positively assessed and the Israeli Ministry of Health passed a decision on granting exceptionally the rights to students who obtain diploma at this School to qualify for the state licensing exam in Israel.
This decision fully aligns diplomas of Israeli students who obtained them at the Zagreb School of Medicine so far and provides for equal academic education opportunities for Israeli students at the Zagreb School of Medicine like those studying in Israel or in the OECD countries. Moreover, this decision gives a formal framework for the part of cooperation in the field of medical education and research, which has even so far been among the leading fields of cooperation between Croatia and Israel.
