On the occasion of the European Year of Cultural Heritage, in collaboration of the EU Delegation, embassies of the Member States and Ruthie Russo, a celebrity Israeli chef and columnist, the Member States have presented some of their traditional dishes to the Israeli public, via a special website: https://eu4culture.org.il/ From Croatia, there are Zagorski štrukli on the “menu”. Along with the photos and the recipe, there is as well a special message of Tina Krce, Chargée d"Affaires a.i. of the Croatian Embassy in Israel: “A unique fusion of Mediterranean and Central-European cuisine, which reveals the true, multi-faceted character of the country – that might be the best description of Croatian culinary richness. There is so much to enjoy – from award-winning olive oil, wine and cheese, great seafood, tender meat dishes and original desserts. Today, I invite you to taste the traditional Zagorski štrukli, a savoring cheese and pastry dish from the continental, picturesque North-Western part of Croatia and one of my favorite dishes. Enjoy Zagorski štrukli – you may even try making them yourselves! Dobar tek! Beteavon!” Among many dishes, the Israeli chef Ruthie Russo selected the Zagorski štrukli as a very interesting dish which she suggests preparing during Shavuot, a Jewish holiday with tradition of eating dairy foods such as cheese - which was published in the weekend edition of the Yedioth Ahronoth.
