From 13-19 July 2017, a group of 25 Croatian teachers and educators participate at the teacher-training seminar on Holocaust at the International School for Holocaust Studies at the Yad Vashem - the World Holocaust Remembrance Centre. The seminar covers the topics of Judaism and Holocaust from different perspectives (history, arts, personal stories), antisemitism, as well as methods of teaching Holocaust at elementary and high-schools. The seminar was opened by a short on-topic lecture by Ms. Tina Krce, ChargĂ© d"Affaires of the Embassy of Croatia, emphasizing, among other things, the importance of holocaust education in the overall bilateral, Croatian-Israeli, cooperation. As a part of the programme, the group also visited the Croatian Embassy in Tel Aviv, meet with Ms Tina Krce, ChargĂ© d"Affaires, and the Embassy’s staff, and discussed the Embassy’s activities and other current topics related to Israel and the region of the Middle East.
Croatian teachers and experts have been participating regularly at the seminars from 2006, as a part of a cooperation based on the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Science and Sports of the Republic of Croatia, Education and Teacher Training Agency of the Republic of Croatia and the Yad Vashem, with more than 200 Croatian teachers and educators participating so far. The Memorandum for a new period, extending further the cooperation in this important field, has been signed between the partner institutions ahead of this year’s seminar.
