Annual session of NATO Parliamentary Assembly was held on 12 October 2015 in Stavanger and was addresses, apart from Michael Turner, President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, by Erna Solberg, Prime Minister of Norway, Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary General of NATO and Chairman of the North Atlantic Council and Jan Egeland, Secretary General of the Norwegian Refugee Council.
The discussion focused on the situation in the Middle East and Ucraine, as well as on the climate change, which cause numerous and different security challenges. Considering the number and different nature of the challenges as well as their interconnectedness, on the other hand, participants underlined the need for a holistic and multidisciplinary approach, as well as quick adjustment and capacity building. Stronger coordination and synergy between international institutions and partner countries is also necessary. NATO PA emphasized a message that the investment in NATO’s military capacity is not in contradiction with the efforts to maintain political dialogue with Russia; a call for all member states to increase their investment in their defense capacities; and a strong support to the NATO enlargement through invitation to Montenegro. Several resolutions, resulting from the work of NATO PA committees, have been adopted.
Delegation of the Republic of Croatia, headed by MP Boris Blažekovic, also participated in the work of NATO PA, and Ambassador Hrvoje Marušic attended the annual session.
