The 29th annual Croatian Folklore Concert, performed by The Croatian Folklore Ensemble Croatoan of Ottawa, was held at the concert auditorium at the University of Carleton on April 28th, 2007. The event was followed by a formal banquet with Ambassador Vesela Mrden Korac in attendance, along with other staff members of the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Ottawa.
Ambassador Mrden Korac addressed the members of the ensemble and their guests, congratulating them on their performance and their efforts in preserving traditional Croatian culture and heritage in Ottawa. Mr. Sasa Muradori, President of the Croatoan Ensemble, thanked all the institutions, individuals and the Embassy of Croatia in Ottawa for their support on behalf of the 70 members from ages 4 to 65 than make up the group.
A major highlight of the event was the donation of $15,000 from the provincial governments 'Ontario Trillium Foundation'. The funds will go toward the purchase of new musical instruments from Croatia, replacing some of the existing 30 year old instruments, and the continued instruction of future generations in Croatian music and dance.
