As part of the programme of commemorating the 25th Anniversary of Establishment of Diplomatic Relations with Japan and 5th Anniversary of joining the EU a concert of a capella group Klapa Kaleta and gala dinner prepared by masterchef Hrvoje Zirojevic was held in Tokamachi City in the Northeast Japan on 21 March 2018.
The concert was attended by many dignitaries from political, business and cultural life of the city and the large audience at the newly opened concert hall. The mayor of Tokamachi City Norifumi Sekiguchi and Ambassador of Croatia to Japan Dražen Hrastic offered opening addresses. Two Japanese a capella groups, The Soulmatics with TMS Gospel Ensemble from Tokyo and Yuki No Hana from Tokamachi, joined Klapa Kaleta on stage and performed a variety of Croatian and Japanese songs.
Croatia and Tokamachi have been developing a very special relationship since Tokamachi hosted the Croatian National Soccer Team in 2002. Throughout the years we have witnessed an ever increasing cooperation in various areas such as culture, sport, education, art, even gastronomy. Tokamachi City features “Croatia House”, designed by Croatian architects, and there are many Croatian products available. Since Last year, the Tokamachi City Administration has a special coordinator for international relations from Croatia, Sven Bjelan.
The Japanese tour of klapa and chef Zirojevic was realized with financial and organizational support of Memolead Group, Tokamachi City and Japan-Croatia Exchange Society from Osaka, founded and led by Jelena Yamasaki.
