40th Anniversary of Sister City Relations between Rijeka and Kawasaki

On 22 November 2017 Cities of Rijeka and Kawasaki marked the 40th Anniversary of Sister City Relations with a concert and a photo exhibition held at the Kawasaki’s brand new Culttz Concert Hall. A capacity crowd, which included the two Mayors: Vojko Obersnel and Norihiko Fukuda, enjoyed the music by the renowned Croatian pianist from Rijeka Goran Filipec, performing works of Franz Liszt and Croatian composer Ivo Macek. Before Filipec’s recital, Noburito Quire performed Croatian song “U boj, u boj” which is very popular among Japanese quires, and Sakado Elementary School Quire performed a set of popular Japanese songs. In the foyer of the Hall photos by young photographers from Rijeka were exhibited, presenting the city of Rijeka and the daily life of its people to the citizens of Kawasaki. Rijeka Delegation, consisting of Mayor Obersnel, Chairman of the City Council Tihomir Cordašev, Director of the Rijeka Tourist Bord Petar škarpa and Tajana Mavrinac from the City Protocol Office, had a number of meetings with representatives of Kawasaki and continuation and deepening of friendly relations and exchange was agreed in many areas of mutual interest, such as tourism, economy, culture, education and sport.
