On 8 June 2016, Ambassador Sanja Bujas-Juraga handed 182 books and publications on human rights issues over to the Albanian Ombudsman Mr Igli Totozani. The books have been donated by numerous Croatian institutions upon the request of Mr Totozani. The donators include the Croatian Government"s Office for Human Rights, the Ombudsman of the Republic of Croatia and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs.
The Ambassador stressed the enthusiasm and willingness of the Croatian institutions to donate books for the Albanian Ombudsman’s new library, which will be open to the public, as well. Mr Totozani thanked Croatia for the donated books and the helpfulness of Croatian institutions and emphasized the excellent cooperation with the Croatian Ombudsman.
With respect to his work, Mr Totozani underlined the great importance of transparency and the visibility of the ombudsman’s work, which help send out the message to the broader public that disrespect for human rights and discrimination against vulnerable groups would not be tolerated. According to the Albanian Ombudsman, as a result of this, the confidence of the citizens in the institution of the Ombudsman has been rapidly rising.
