The nongovernment organization “Nature for Humanity Association“, based in Durres, has yesterday marked the 83rd anniversary of the Croatian scholar and albanologist Milan Shufflay’s death. Inspired by Shufflay’s life and work - and commitment to research of Albanian history, the NGO is promoting the Croatian scientist as the figure to look up to for motivation in their activities dedicated to nature and Albanian heritage preservation. With officials from the county, the municipality of Durres, representatives of the civil society and representatives of the Croatian Embassy in Albania, the director of the NGO Mr. Fali Ndreka spoke to the attendants about the life and work of Milan Shufflay and the vast significance of his work for Albanian history.
Counsellor at the Croatian Embassy Ms Jelica Krišto stressed in her remarks the pride that Croatian people feel about Milan Shufflay. “Milan Shufflay was remarkable both as a human being and a scholar. His intellectual courage was and still is inspiring. His human dignity and courage are genuinely admirable. He was one of the rare and outstanding personalities who dare think and dare say what they think. He was passionate about his commitment to the research of Albanian history and for that he came to pay the highest price of all. Milan Shufflay is a mighty bond between the Croatian and the Albanian peoples. We are proud of his accomplishments and highly appreciative of his enormous contribution to a better understanding of the Albanian history. And we are most appreciative of any effort and undertaking to keep up the memory of his life and work.”
