EXHIBITION OF PAINTINGS BY EMIRA MUJICIC – IVANOVIC Continuing the series of exhibitions by the Croatian artists who live in London, a retrospective of paintings by Emira Mujicic – Ivanovic opened at the Croatian Embassy on 25th January 2005. Emira Mujicic – Ivanovic was born in Zagreb where she graduated from the Faculty of Biochemistry. After graduation she worked in clinics in Zagreb, London and New York. As she was becoming more and more attracted by the art world, she also studied painting in Sarajevo, New York, Paris and London. She exhibited for the first time in Zagreb and London in 1983, and after that had numerous one woman exhibitions as well as mixed shows in Croatia, London, Italy, Germany and Turkey. Emira''s early work was influenced by the Croatian painters Kraljevic and Bukovac, the Bosnian sculptor Arfan Hozic and the Austrian Secessionist painter Gustav Klimt. Her later work became experimental, concentrating on "discovering new artistic possibilities" (Glavan). On this occasion she has shown oils and watercolours from the eighties, graphics and designs from the nineties, painting on canvas and aluminium foil, complex compositions of oil and acrylic, which together with photographs, objects and textiles result in interesting collage, and finally, her latest work, graphically strong self-portraits on transparent foil.
