On the 6th of December 2016, the Committee members of the Cystic - Fibrosis International Walk and Cystic Fibrosis Ireland (CFI), Peter Minchin, Shane O’Neill, Fergal Smyth, Bernie Murphy, Tony Griffith, Vincent O’Malley, Julia Kierans, Olivia Everard, Sophie Everard and Dr. Eddie Murphy, psychologist from Radio Television Éire’s Operation Transformation, as the head of the delegation, visited the Croatian Embassy in Dublin.
Dr. Murphy informed Mr. Ivan Mašina, the Croatian Ambassador to Ireland, about the annual Cystic Fibrosis International Walk (CF IW) which has been running for 22 years. Dr. Murphy, as the Ambassador of the Walk for 2017, announced that the next year"s walk will take place in Croatia and that it is to be organised in cooperation with the Croatian Cystic Fibrosis Association. CFI is urging people to dust off their walking shoes for a great cause and sign up for the Paddy Kieran’s International Walk taking place in Croatia from September 22nd to 29th, 2017. The 2017 walk will start in Dubrovnik, pass through Medjugorje in Bosina and Hercegovina, Korcula Island, the historical town of Ston and finish in Orebic. It is expected that each participant will walk an average of 10km each day. The walk is dedicated to the memory of a Drogheda man, Paddy Kieran, a legendary champion for people with cystic fibrosis, who passed away in 2006. Since it first got underway, people on the walk have set foot in numerous countries, including Vietnam, Portugal, Montenegro, Poland, Turkey, Italy and the United States of America.
Mr. Ivan Mašina welcomed and supported the idea offering help with the organisation. After the photos with children suffering from CF were taken for the fundraising campaign, Ambassador Mašina expressed his admiration for the help they are providing to those affected by CF and presented the CFI delegation with materials on Croatia and Croatian souvenirs.
