The exhibition “Contemporary Croatian Drawing” was opened at the Farmleigh Gallery in Dublin on Thursday, 13 July. Speaking at the opening, Ambassador Dr Nenad Prelog stressed the importance of further enhancing of cultural cooperation between Croatia and Ireland. Peter Murray, Director of the Crawford Municipal Art Gallery in Cork, has brought closer to the audience the uniqueness of Croatian art and culture.
Contemporary Croatian Drawing is an exhibition of 120 drawings by 60 artists from Croatia, selected by Academician Tonko Maroevic and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia. It is a selection of works by young artists who have just entered the visual arts scene, as well as by artists who are already established over a number of years, thus presenting the specific creative continuity of the most prominent representatives of modern Croatian visual art.
Croatian cultural space is an extraordinary amalgam of geographical and civilization layers, which had an invigorating effect on visual arts. Some artists have a maritime and solar inspiration, while others are identified by the continental provenance. Every visual artwork begins with the drawing, and it is only in the drawing that the purity of vision is preserved.
The exhibition will be opened until 14 August 2006. Mored details are available at www.farmleighgallery.ie
