Dr. Nikola Ruzinski, State Secretary for Environment at the Croatian Ministry of Environment, Physical Planning and Construction, delivered a statement at the high-level segment of the 13th Session of the Commission on Sustainable Development at the United Nations today.

Croatia Stresses Need to Implement Measures for Sustainable Development Dr. Nikola Ruzinski, State Secretary for Environment at the Croatian Ministry of Environment, Physical Planning and Construction, delivered a statement at the high-level segment of the 13th Session of the Commission on Sustainable Development at the United Nations today. Dr. Ruzinski highlighted the need to find effective implementation measures for sustainable development policies in the areas of water, sanitation and human settlements. While noting that national governments in partnership with local authorities bear the primary responsibility for safe drinking water, access to sanitation and increasing the standard of living, Dr. Ruzinski stated that Croatia aims to incorporate into its policies and strategies a balance of economic potentials, social sensitivity and the necessity for preserving the environment to highest possible extent. Dr. Ruzinski also stated that Croatia is set to meet the Millennium Development Goals in relation to increasing the percentage of inhabitants connected to the public water supply system to 94% and the public sewage system with suitable purification of waste water to 65%.
