The Government of the Republic of Croatia has prolonged the suspension of the visa regime with Serbia and Montenegro for another year.

Croatia suspends visa regime for Serbia and Montenegro The Government of the Republic of Croatia has prolonged the suspension of the visa regime with Serbia and Montenegro for another year. The decision was made on 9 December 2004 and covers the period 1 January 2005 to 31 December 2005. The Croatian Government initially suspended the visa regime for citizens of Serbia and Montenegro in June 2003, calling the decision a positive confidence building step in the two countries’ relations. Commenting on the visa regime with Serbia and Montenegro, Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader has said, “We want the normalization of relations with Serbia and Montenegro. We want a stable neighborhood.” Prime Minister Sanader made an official visit to Serbia and Montenegro on 15 November 2004. He was the first Croatian premier to pay an official visit to Belgrade since Croatia gained independence from the former Yugoslavia in 1992. Croatia will not request visas from citizens of Serbia and Montenegro who enter the country as tourists and stay no longer than 90 days. This decision relates exclusively to persons carrying official state passports of Serbia and Montenegro and does not cover those traveling on special papers issued by UNMIK.
