Welcome to the website of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Croatia to the United Nations in New York. Croatia's voice in the United Nations is becoming more pronounced, from presiding over the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in 2002, to chairing and co-chairing various committees, commissions and other bodies. Whereas Croatia was once a recipient of UN peacekeeping missions, we have now become a troop-contributing country participating in 10 UN peacekeeping missions throughout the world. Continuing in this respect, Croatia has announced its candidature to become a non-permanent member of the Security Council for the term 2008-2009. On our website you will find an overview of Croatia's priorities at the United Nations which are guided by our dedication to effective multilateralism and international law, national priorities and status of a candidate country to the European Union. Croatia advocates the reform of the UN, including the enlargement of the Security Council, revitalization of the work of the General Assembly and strengthening of ECOSOC. Croatia also recognizes the need to revive the global commitment to the Millennium Declaration, as well as other internationally agreed upon development goals. Our info service is designed to provide you with the latest news relevant to our work at the mission, including statements, speeches and Croatia's position on questions discussed at the United Nations. We also aim to provide you with current news relating to Croatia's foreign policy, EU candidate status and our ongoing participation in UN peacekeeping missions. We hope that you will find our website useful and informative and invite you to visit the site often to learn about our work at the United Nations. We also hope that you will explore other websites related to Croatia, many of which are linked to this site. Thank you for your interest in Croatia and the United Nations.
