Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Gordan Jandrokovic participated 15 April 2011 in NATO ministerial meeting, Berlin.
In regard to today's adoption of NATO's new partnership policy, Minister Jandrokovic said that in order for NATO to continue its successful existence of the past 60 or so years, it needed to play a role in a wider-scale international security, as well as cooperate with partner countries, new parties and international organizations, a direction which the new partnership policy should take as well.
The minister also described as important the cooperation between NATO and the EU, especially during economic hardship, when sharing resources and simplifying the activities is of the utmost importance. In that regard, he expressed conviction that the mutual cooperation would be even more intensive and efficient.
He also pointed out that Croatia would soon become the 22nd EU country that was a member of both organizations. In that sense, Croatia will give it contribution to the further enhancement and strengthening of the NATO-EU cooperation and partnership.
Conclusively, he stated that from Croatia's national perspective, as well as in the interest of Europe's security and stability, NATO should not lose focus from the region of South Eastern Europe, especially in regard to the countries with NATO membership aspirations.
