A unique collection of stamps marking key moments in NATO's history are on display today at NATO Headquarters. The Croatian Atlantic Council brought the exhibition to Brussels after touring Dubrovnik and Zagreb.
Over the years, dozens of stamps have been issued across allied countries, commemorating their entry to NATO, anniversaries, summits, elections, and so on. The oldest stamp was issued when the Atlantic Charter was announced by British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and US President Franklin D. Roosevelt on 14 August 1941. The first NATO stamp was issued by the United States on the eve of the Organization's third anniversary.
The newest stamps, issued by the Croatian Post Office, mark Croatia's accession to NATO in April 2009.
Prof. Radovan Vukadinovic, President of the Croatian Atlantic Council, and Dr Stefanie Babst, Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy, opened the exhibition, which is supported by the Croatian Delegation to NATO, NATO's Public Diplomacy Division and the Belgian Philatelic Association. Also present was Ambassador Igor Pokaz, Permanent Representative of Croatia to NATO.
