CROATIAN NATIONAL COMMITTEE ON NATO MEMBERSHIP MEETS The Croatian National Committee on NATO Membership met on Thursday under the chairmanship of President Stjepan Mesic, Parliament Speaker Vladimir Seks and Prime Minister Ivo Sanader to discuss the conclusions of NATO's recent summit in Riga, the President's Office said in a statement. The meeting reiterated satisfaction with the positive signals that had been sent from the summit to Croatia as the most advanced aspirant for full membership of the military alliance. NATO concluded that at its next summit in 2008 it would extend membership invitations to the countries that meet alliance standards and are able to contribute to Euro-Atlantic security and stability. It also welcomed Croatia's preparations to assume the responsibilities and obligations of membership. The National Committee also discussed a coordinated approach by all relevant institutions in presenting NATO to the Croatian public as an organisation based on democratic values, human and minority rights protection, a market economy, and security, the statement said.
