The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration welcomes the Final Riga declaration in which NATO Heads of States and Governments highlighted Croatia's significant progress and specified a timeframe for accession to this organization of Western democracies. During the summit held on 28 and 29 December 2006, in Riga, Latvia, the allies expressed their intention to extend further membership invitations at the next summit in 2008 to those countries that meet NATO standards. The allies also emphasized Croatia's significant progress in furthering political, economic and defense reforms. Above all, the message from Riga represents encouragement to further the reform process and the consistent implementation of the Membership Action Plan as well as to intensify the dialogue with the Croatian public on the subject of Croatia's accession to the North Atlantic Alliance. With a clear timeframe for accession to NATO, the Republic of Croatia received one of the most significant recognitions since its independence. And this also additionally confirms Croatia's international position on her way to achieving the strategic goal of Euro Atlantic integration. Ivana Crnic Spokesperson
